It's about Vecna entering the minds of people who are important to Will, including Joyce, Mike and Jonathan. Vecna making them activity forgotting details about Will like his birthday and leaving little clues about the mind flayer and birthday cards etc. Because the only way to stop Will's possession from Vecna is by remembering happy memories and once those are cleared in people's thoughts.. then he cannot be redeemed.
