Colombian President Gustavo Petro said President Trump allowed him to speak for 40 of the 55 minutes of their first ever phone call, joking that he was “Latin American” while Trump was "very American, pragmatic." Petro said the conversation gave him the opportunity to present a different perspective on drug trafficking and Venezuela, adding that during Trump’s 15 minutes, the U.S. president told him there have been “as many lies about you as there have been about me,” Petro told CBS News.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro just publicly proposed that Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, and parts of Peru and Nicaragua merge, then balkanize into a confederation of 14 autonomous nations. The confederation would be called "Gran Colombia."

His post:

This is the Gran Colombia, it was Bolívar's idea and I propose by constituent vote of the population that we rebuild it as a confederation of autonomous Nations.

We would have common policies in the matters that the people propose. Undoubtedly the commercial policy toward industrialization and being what it is geographically a center of the world and of Latin America. A center of clean energies, of knowledge, of high-technology infrastructures for mobility and communication. On those there would be a Gran Colombian parliament, a court of justice and a government council, like in the European Union or in the federal USA.

A potential for tourism and for world connectivity.
