Chinese property billionaire Zhang Yuanlin saw his worth drop from $1.3BN to just $250.7MN on Monday, after his Sinic Holdings lost 87% before Hong Kong trading in the group was suspended.

To make matters worse, Sinic have a $245MN bond payout due in less than a month, as Evergrande’s seemingly inevitable collapse has destroyed investor confidence.

The demise of Evergrande has plunged the company’s Super League football club Guahnzhou FC into peril too, with the Guangdong govt and state-owned enterprises set to bail out the club that reportedly bleeds up to $300MN a year.

Dow suffers 900-pt HIT as Chinese property crisis deepens

Early Monday afternoon trading saw the Dow Jones drop OVER 900 points - or 2.4% - as markets reflect the global impact of the Chinese property crisis sparked by Evergrande’s imminent collapse.

The S&P 500 also fell 2.1% and the Nasdaq lost 2.6% as speculation builds that Evergrande will default on its interest payments on two bonds, due on Thursday.

Collapsing market values come as the Federal Reserve are set to meet this week, when it is suspected they will discuss cutting back on their bond-buying program that has boosted stocks during the pandemic.

The Victorian government will forcibly shutdown all construction sites for two weeks in metropolitan Melbourne and all other locked down local government areas in response to protests Monday against mandatory vaccination on construction sites.

"We've been clear: if you don't follow the rules, we won't hesitate to take action – we have seen widespread noncompliance across the industry,” Minister for Industrial Relations Tim Pallas said.

"We put the industry on notice just a week ago, we have seen appalling behavior on site and on our streets, and now we're acting decisively and without hesitation,” Pallas added.
