American crypto developer pleads guilty to helping North Korea evade sanctions!
Virgil Griffith admitted in court today that he helped North Korea use cryptocurrencies to evade US sanctions, and avoided using his passport to travel to Pyongyang after the State Department had initially REFUSED him permission to travel.
Griffith spoke at a 2019 crypto conference in the country’s capital where he "provided instruction on how the DPRK could use blockchain and cryptocurrency technology to launder money and evade sanctions”, after which he apparently sought to switch nationality.
The Singapore-based developer acknowledged that his advice was violating the sanctions, by aiding an elite hacking group reportedly steal millions from crypto exchanges.
