Sydney mother reportedly arrested in front of her children for not wearing mask - video!

Unverified footage has appeared online appearing to show a Sydney mother handcuffed on the street for not masking up while her three children are in tears just meters away.

The woman filming the latest incident of apparently heavy-handed Australian policing is heard raising her voice, saying “There are traumatized kids, what are you doing?”, to which one replies “Yelling isn’t going to help… something’s happened with her mask, we’re just making sure.”

It isn’t clear exactly what had happened before the clip.

China’s “ARTIFICIAL SUN” could be ready in a decade - if Beijing gives green light to nuclear fusion project

A lead scientist on the China Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor (CFETR), Professor Song Yuntao, claims China could become the first country to produce stable electricity from advanced fusion heat.

The technology involves maintaining hydrogen at temperatures over 100million degrees celsius, which requires advanced superconductors - a test run in Hefei managed a world-record 100 seconds in May.

CFETR likely won’t be the world’s first fusion reactor, as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is due to begin in 2025 - but it won’t be able to produce power after already costing $65BN to develop since 2007.

Both the US and the UK have signalled intentions to make fusion power commercialized by 2040.

Taiwan parliament COVID BRAWL - Opposition FURIOUS over pandemic handling

Taiwan’s Nationalist Party opposition broke into the chamber and interrupted house speaker Su Tseung-chang as he was starting his annual address to protest his party’s handling of Covid, sparking a rowdy melee.

One of the Nationalist party member, Chen Yu-jen, is seen attempting to climb onto the podium before being manhandled to the ground. Su was unable to deliver his speech as he made a swift exit.

One particular bone of contention for the protesting lawmakers was the decision to shorten quarantine for returning pilots to just three days, which many claim sparked the country’s worst outbreak in May and June this year.

FREEZING winter threatens to COMPOUND China energy crisis - Bloomberg

The US National Weather Service has predicted a “70-80%” chance of "La Nina" weather pattern bringing a colder than usual winter to China - which could compound the already worrying power crisis.

At least 20 provinces - accounting for about two-thirds of the country’s GDP - have experienced power cuts, but plummeting temperatures would place even greater strain on the network amid the country’s efforts to impose stricter environmental goals and the soaring coal & gas prices.

China’s power consumption is already up 16% this year through July compared to 2020, while restrictions on raising prices to consumers are forcing many factories to partially or fully close.

❗️JPMorgan plans for “POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC” US debt limit event (Reuters)

The US’ largest lender, JPMorgan, has begun preparations for what its CEO Jamie Dimon says could become another economic recession if the country reaches its debt limit, as fears of default gather pace.

“We should never even get this close. I just think this whole thing is mistaken and one day we should just have a bipartisan bill and get rid of the debt ceiling. It’s all politics," Dimon told Reuters.

While Congress squabbles over raising or suspending the debt limit - which has happened over 80 times since 1960 - the Democrats have said they will try to pass a government funding bill on by Thursday.

Evergrande misses ANOTHER offshore bond repayment deadline

Evergrande MISSED $47.5mn-worth of overseas bond interest repayments on Wednesday, as Reuters reported some sources claiming to have heard nothing about the payments due from the beleaguered Chinese giant.

This is their second dollar debt obligation missed this month, after they failed to meet an earlier deadline for $83.5mn last week.

It remains unclear what plans Evergrande has for managing the missed deadlines.
