Alex Saab, ally of Venezuela’s President Maduro extradited to US
A fugitive businessman accused of acting as a money launderer for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s regime was extradited Saturday (Oct 16) to the United States from Cape Verde, his legal team told AFP.
Manuel Pinto Monteiro, a lawyer for Saab in Cape Verde, said “we were informed that Alex Saab was put on a US Justice Department plane and sent to that country.” Pinto Monteiro insisted the extradition was illegal because, he said, the legal process surrounding it in Cape Verde had not run its full course.

UPDATE: INDIA FLOODS - At least 25 dead after torrential rain triggers landslides in Kerala
Heavy rain has battered the coastal state of Kerala since Friday, causing rivers to burst their banks, flooding roads and reducing buildings to rubble.
Rescue efforts have continued since Saturday, with the Indian military, navy and air power. At least 25 people have died, officials confirmed, as rescuers continued to scour muddy debris for survivors.
Thousands of people have been evacuated to 184 aid camps set up throughout the state.

Skoda Auto to HALT production over global chip supply crisis (Report)
Volkswagen’s Skoda Auto has stripped production to the bare bones as it leaves only one of its three Czech Republic-based production lines running for the next two weeks, and will focus on completing 10k unfinished cars. (Reuters)
The Czech carmaker industry - which employs 250k people, and accounts for a quarter of the country’s industrial output - claims it will deliver 250k fewer cars this year, setting it back over $9bn.
