Last-gasp Evergrande reprieve? Group beats deadline by hours for bond repayment (reports)
Evergrande has pulled back from the brink of default by paying up on an $83.5mn bond coupon on the last day of its 30-day grace period, according to state-backed paper Securities Times.
“The payment looks like an attempt to kick the can down the road, given its tight liquidity situation,” said Wu Qiong, executive director at BOC International Holdings.
Markets reacted by pushing dollar bonds up 3 cents in Hong Kong, where shares rose 5%, although there are still $7.4bn coming in bond repayments next year, with four interest payments still outstanding this year.

NATO Agrees Masterplan to Counter "Increasing Russian Threat” – which could include NUKES!
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced Thursday a new plan for the alliance to deter Moscow which could include nuclear weapons, computer hacking and attacks from space.
Defense ministers also agreed a $1bn fund to finance new digital technologies as part of more “modernized plans”, although officials did stress they don’t believe any attacks are imminent.
Kremlin spox Dmitry Peskov says the plan shows Moscow was right to sever ties with the bloc: "Russia has never had any illusions about NATO. We know the nature of this alliance... This alliance was not created for peace, it was conceived, designed and created for confrontation."
