UK Phone Companies Targeted by Ransomware Hackers (Reports)
Several internet and telecom providers have been targeted by DDoS attacks in recent weeks a Comms Council UK spokesman told the BBC.
Rather than just knocking the websites offline - the recent attacks have been conducted as ransomware attacks - in the hope of extorting money from the providers, the spox revealed.
Though he couldn’t specify how many firms were affected the spox did say that multiple providers had been hit.

Third Chinese city placed under Covid lockdown - after one infection
China is continuing to take a zero tolerance approach ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympics, with around six million people now under strict stay-at-home orders.
Heihe in Heilongjiang province is now the third city under lockdown, after reporting one new Covid-19 case, following on from Lanzhou earlier this week.
Officials in Heihe, which borders Russia, has begun testing 1.6 million residents. Emergency travel is allowed but buses and taxis have been suspended.

Protesters have broken into the site in Hampshire and set up a blockade. British Olympians Laura Baldwin and Etienne Scott chained themselves to a boat blocking the entrance to the Fawley refinery, while other activists cut through electric fences and have climbed two 50ft oil silos.
Extinction Rebellion is demanding the govt stop fossil fuel investments and has called on ExxonMobil to stop expansion plans.
The subsidiary site of oil giant Esso is the largest in the UK, supply 20% of Britain's fossil fuels. Seven demonstrators climbed the silos and unfurled two banners, one saying "climate emergency" and the other "no future in fossil fuels."
