Bitcoin aficionados lured to the central Asian country by cheap and abundant power are seeing authorities crack down on the industry as power costs swell. (Bloomberg)

Kazakhstan has placed massive limitations on the energy-intensive industry as cryptocurrencies sap national power supply.

The policy reversal has effectively eliminated Kazakhstan as one of the cheapest countries on Earth to mine Bitcoin, just as the token’s rise this year made mining more profitable.
