China accused of using Huawei network in covert Australian telecoms hack (reports)
A newly uncovered sophisticated hack into Australian telecoms systems, allegedly after a Huawei software update filled with malicious code, has been made public after a Bloomberg investigation.
The breach occurred back in 2012 and was reported by Australian intelligence to their American counterparts - who then confirmed a similar attack on US-based equipment which has helped build the case both govts have made against the Chinese company of being a conduit for Beijing’s espionage.
The update in question apparently recorded all communications, sent them back to China, before the code deleted itself a few days later.

Meta/Facebook Named Worst Company of the Year - Despite Rebranding Push
Social media behemoth Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is the worst company of the outgoing 2021, according to a survey by Yahoo Finance.
The Big Tech giant beat dozens of other corporations to the noscript, receiving 50% more votes than the silver medalist - Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.
The 1500 survey respondents complained about Meta’s social platforms’ practices: Facebook was criticised for censorship, while Instagram was blamed for negatively affecting the mental health of young people.
Perhaps the company should virtually frame and hang its new noscript in one of its Metaverse offices?

Evergrande Shareholder Privatization Plan Collapses as Investors REVOLT (Bloomberg)
Chinese Estates Holdings Ltd., a major stakeholder in embattled developer China Evergrande, said Friday its plans to go private had fallen through as its shareholders had rejected the offer.
The company, which is the third-largest shareholder of Evergrande, received a proposal to be taken private from Solar Bright, a British Virgin Islands-based company, for $245mn in early October.
The offer price was 83% above the last closing share price of Chinese Estates before the privatization proposal was made public, but a 55% discount to the adjusted per-share net asset value, according to a filing last month.
