Austria lifts 'unvaccinated lockdown' for Christmas & New Year's

Unvaxxed Austrians will be permitted to join gatherings of up to 10 people between December 24 and 26, and on New Year’s Eve.

“Christmas should show us once again how important contact with our loved ones is and how precious time together is,” the health minister said Thursday.

Austria imposed restrictions on people not vaccinated last month, followed by a full lockdown which has triggered protests nationwide.

It’s a Christmas miracle?

London declares ‘major incident’ over Omicron

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced a ‘major incident’ in the UK capital over the quickly deteriorating epidemiological situation prompted by the fast-spreading Omicron variant.

“Today I have declared a major incident in London because of the serious threat of Covid-19 to our city. This will help us avoid disruption to frontline services and to the life-saving booster vaccine rollout,” the mayor said on Twitter on Saturday.

A major incident is announced when special arrangements by emergency services might be required to deal with a serious event or situation.

California mayor declares state of EMERGENCY to tackle drugs, street pooping

San Francisco Mayor London Breed declared a state of emergency in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood just days after she announced a war on crime, drugs, and public defecation and the culprits behind them.

“Similar to the City’s COVID-19 Declaration of Emergency, this action will eliminate bureaucratic barriers, allowing the City to quickly respond to the conditions relating to the health and safety of the people in the Tenderloin,” the statement declared, claiming that the ongoing opioid crisis in the area “puts the lives of San Franciscans in serious risk.”

Amazon's patents could turn whole neighborhoods into ‘SURVEILLED SPACE’

Amazon has registered 17 new patents for biometric technology intended to help its doorbell cameras identify “suspicious” people by scent, skin texture, fingerprints, eyes, voice, and gait.

The tech giant has been developing its doorbell security camera system since 2018, when Amazon acquired the firm named Ring and, with it, the original technology.

If Amazon’s new patents are anything to go by, all Ring doorbell cameras in a given neighborhood would be interconnected, sharing data with each other and creating a composite image of “suspicious” individuals.

Scientists force human brain cells into Matrix-like simulation

Human brain cells cultured in a petri dish and assisted by microelectrodes picked up the art of playing the ‘Pong’ video game significantly faster than AI did.

Researchers at Australia’s Cortical Labs harnessed hundreds of thousands of human brain cells grown on top of arrays of microelectrodes, teaching the biotechnological hybrid they dubbed ‘DishBrain’ to play a single-player version of old-school ‘Pong’. They then compared the speed with which the mini-brain picked up the skill with that of artificial intelligence (AI). The human brain cells beat their rival hands down, getting the hang of the game in just five minutes compared to the 90 minutes it took the machine to catch on.

Witches executed 300 years ago to be posthumously pardoned

Thousands of people, mostly women and girls, who were accused of witchcraft in Scotland hundreds of years ago are set to be pardoned following a two-year long campaign by the Witches of Scotland activist group.

The women’s alleged crimes were reportedly as varied as causing hangovers to meeting with the Devil — and more than half of those accused under the Witchcraft Act between 1563 and 1736 were executed. According to estimates cited by the Sunday Times, some 85% of the victims were female.
