Icelandic capital Hit by Double Earthquake
Just days after a months-long volcanic eruption was declared over, Iceland's capital Rejkavik has been struck by two minor quakes of 4.1 and 4.9 magnitudes - after a “seismic swarm” of 1,400 micro-tremors.
The epicenter was located northeast of the spectacular lava eruptions that went viral around the world. Seismic activity often precludes volcanic activity, leaving experts on edge.

UK hospitals plan for “mass casualty” scenario amid Omicron fears – with one-third of NHS staff potentially off sick
The English National Health Service has asked hospitals to draw up plans to deal with a “mass casualty type scenario,” similar to a “major incident on a grand scale,” amid skyrocketing Covid infections. (Independent)
Multiple hospital sources are planning for staff absences to peak at 30% in a worst-case scenario in the third week of January.
“Without intervention and locking thing down earlier, while it may keep a lot of people happy to celebrate Christmas, we’re going to suffer for it afterwards,” a senior health care leader said.
