Kazakh president authorizes LETHAL FORCE against protesters “without warning”

President Tokayev has said law enforcement agents can use lethal force to quell the unrest that has engulfed the country – adding that he was ruling out any negotiations with “terrorists” in an address to the nation Friday.

Earlier he had claimed there are 20k+ terrorists sparking the riots, including foreign elements, before stating Friday that they have killed hundreds of civilians and military.

Tokayev insisted that order has been “mainly restored” after thanking Vladimir Putin for “quickly and comradely” responding to his request for help, with over 3,000 arrests made.

Mind-reading robot tested on humans - Three Gorges Univ.

Chinese scientists have built a wearable robot that can reportedly read a human mind by monitoring brain waves and muscle activity. Developers claim the machine was able to “recognize human intention” with 96% accuracy.

Testing the device on factory workers, researchers from the Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Technology Centre at China Three Gorges University apparently found that the volunteers did not need to issue verbal commands or perform gestures when they needed to grab a tool or a component.

UK Calls Up Army to Battle London’s Omicron Wave

The Ministry of Defense has been asked to deploy 200 troops to assist London hospitals cope with the crippling staff shortages as the capital struggles with a huge spike in Omicron cases.

40 military medics and 160 general duty personnel will be split into five teams over the next three weeks, with a further 32 soldiers deployed to assist ambulance staff until the end of March.

These numbers come on top of 1,800 army staff already helping civil authorities across the country and will tackle the 17,988 hospital Covid admissions as of Jan 5 - up 50% from the previous week, and the highest since last February.

EU Airline Flies 18,000 GHOST FLIGHTS to Keep Landing Slots (reports)

Brussels Airlines has reportedly flown around 3,000 completely empty flights this winter just to hold onto their precious landing slots, with parent company Lufthansa Group running 18k overall. (The Bulletin)

Under the EU’s “use it or lose it” regulations, airlines must usually operate at least 80% of scheduled slots, with the rule suspended at the pandemic’s peak before being reintroduced at 50% last spring.

Lufthansa are apparently planning to cancel 33,000 scheduled flights by the end of March due to the sharp drop in bookings, and with the slot threshold being raised to 64% in April.
