Crude rally continues amid Kazakhstan turmoil: Escalating tensions in the former Soviet state, together with Libyan outages - send futures surging
Global prices for crude oil saw a sharp increase on Thursday, extending the gains recorded during the previous session, as bloody unrest continues to sweep Kazakhstan, an OPEC+ oil producer.
The global benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.38% to $82.30 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures also gained 0.38% to trade at $79.76 per barrel. Both contracts were trading at their highest since late November.
The latest increase comes as Kazakhstan – the second-largest oil producer in the former Soviet Union, with a daily output of around 1.6 million barrels – is shaken by violent anti-government protests.

FDA Ordered to Speed Up Release of Pfizer Vaccine Docs over 100-fold
A federal judge has ruled that the FDA must hasten its publication of documents related to Pfizer’s Covid vaccine that the agency had claimed would take decades to prepare and publish.
District Judge Mark Pittman rejected the FDA’s argument that they could only process 500 pages a month, instructing them to push out 55,000 pages a month instead - given they had processed all of them in 108 days to license the vaccine in the first place.
The attorney heading the suit brought by a collective of scientists, Aaron Siri, claimed the ruling was a “great win for transparency” that will break a govt “stranglehold” on the vaccine data.
