Supermassive Black Hole Discovered - Estimated Mass Of 3BN Suns
Scientists in Australia claim to have found the fastest-growing supermassive black hole of the last 9bn years that shines 7,000 more brightly than all the light in earth's galaxy.
Associate Professor Christian Wolf is "fairly confident the record will not be broken" after his team's discovery, which boasts an event horizon larger than the orbit of all planets in the solar system combined.
"Did something catastrophic happen?" Wolf asked of its origins. "Perhaps two big galaxies crashed into each other."
