Horus' uncle, Set, killed Horus’ father Osiris, to try to take control over Egypt and the underworld

To keep a violent ruler from being in power, Horus fought with Set to take his father's place.
While Horus was sleeping, Set gouged out one of Horus' eyes

In many versions of the myth, Thoth, heals Horus' eye and restores his vision

Because of this, the Eye of Horus is often called the “wedjat” eye, or “wadjet” eye, meaning whole or healthy. This story is the reason for the deeper meaning of the Eye of Horus: it is not just an all-seeing eye, or “third eye,” but an eye that offers healing and protection

Beyond that, the Eye of Horus was often associated with the moon. The waxing and waning moon phases represented the healing process, the new moon representing the eye being ripped out, and the full moon representing the eye's full restoration

The Eye of Horus was associated with healing, protection, and wholeness. It was also represented on measuring instruments for medicinal purposes.
