In his new article, Russian President Vladimir Putin described how almost all of Ukraine’s landmass had fallen under the Russian Empire, and how Ukrainians and Russians can trace their culture and history back through shared roots.
Putin claims that much of Ukraine is historically and ethnically Russian, and Kiev’s turn towards the West amounts to a rejection of its ties with Moscow and the political reality.
He states, “Modern Ukraine is entirely the brainchild of the Soviet era. We know and remember that, to a large extent, it was created at the expense of historical Russia.” Putin argued that Russia's borders were arbitrarily cut and ‘generous territorial ‘gifts’ were handed out.
However, while Putin addressed the tense political situation between Moscow and Kiev, the president backed Ukrainians’ right to self-determination.
He ended his article stating that Russia has never been ‘anti-Ukraine’ and concluding that the future should be ‘up to its citizens to decide.’

67 Wildfires Spread Across 10 States In US West
The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reports 67 large wildfires burn across ten parched Western states on Tuesday, and the largest is in southern Oregon, already threatened to cut power to California.
The largest fire is the Bootleg Fire in southern Oregon. As of Tuesday 1200 ET, the fire has burned 202,000 acres and threaten major transmission lines that feed power into northern California.
