Lafarge Cement Company has pleaded guilty to 1 count of providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations, admitting that it paid individuals designated by the United States as terrorists in Syria to secure the continued operation & protection of a cement plant from 2013 to 2014
The company admitted that after "civil war" broke out in the country in 2011, executives & intermediaries devised a scheme to pay members of the ISIS & al-Nusrah Front to secure the safe operation of the plant & generate profit
The payments enabled Lafarge's Syrian subsidiary to get its employees & suppliers through ISIS checkpoints on the roads to the plant & block competitors from Turkey
Communications between Lafarge Execs & ISIS members shows paying these individuals $1,113,324 for their covert assistance
