Oil Slick from Syria Power Plant Heading for Cyprus!
The Mediterranean island is bracing itself for around 20,000 tons of fuel that could reach its shores, after oil spilled from a major facility in Syria. Some projections suggest it may just miss its shores, but the damage to sea life has already been done.
The self-declared Turkish republic to the north of Cyprus has described it as a "complete disaster for the marine ecosystem."

Time's up for Former Generals facing Genocide Charges in Guatemala
Two former generals are on trial for alleged genocide, crimes against humanity and forced kidnapping leading to the deaths of more than 1,700 people between 1979-82. (Reuters)
Manuel Benedicto Lucas and Manuel Antonio Callejas will stand trial for their part in the country’s civil war which lasted 36 years and claimed the lives of over 200,00 people.
The pair have been in custody since 2016 in Guatemala City and are expected to face sentencing in the coming months.
