🔴 Reports and images now confirm that a fleet of Turkish fishing boats have been illegally fishing inside Greek EEZ, very close to Agathonisi nd even further west after reaching the coasts of Kythira and Antikythira
>https://archive.is/wJWPb

📰 Article

🔸 Another revealing photo shows Turkish fishing boats fishing in the center of the Cyclades next to Serifos undisturbed. In an area hundreds of nautical miles from the Turkish coast. While they reached even further in Kythera and Antikythira between the Peloponnese and Crete and according to the testimonies, they approached a few meters from the shores

🔸 The particularly worrying phenomenon started several weeks ago with talks about "transit" fishing boats that passed through the Aegean in a southwesterly direction to the Libyan Sea. However, as the days go by, the Turkish fishing boats have multiplied and the majority of them not only remain in the Aegean but in many cases move and fish illegally within 6 miles Greek islands

🔴 The Greek FM criticized the EU, saying they should be more active in the Cyprus issue, citing that the EU failed to even participate actively in the Geneva meetings which were set to discuss solutions for it

🔸 "Cyprus is a member state of the EU, therefore we have every reason and should claim the full participation in the process of solving the Cyprus Occupation" Dendias said. " The EU, however, following hesitation, failed to even be part of the negotiations in Geneva"

🔸 According to Dendias, "after the last experience I had in Geneva, the settlement of the Cyprus issue [seems to be] perhaps even further away, because now Turkey appears to not accept the UN Security Council resolution framework and consequence of international law, ie the two state proposal"

🔴 Merkel: "I do not see Turkey joining the EU"

📰 Article
[...]
🔸 "I have not seen and still do not see a Turkish accession to the European Union" said Merkel, noting at the same time that she is making every effort to have good relations with Turkey. "That is why I was in favor of - as agreed in the EU-Turkey Refugee Agreement - starting negotiations on a Customs Union with Turkey and we have instructed the Commission to work in this manner"

🔸 "At the last European Council we decided to give another 3 billion euros to Turkey to support its work with refugees. And it is on these issues that I am talking to Mr Erdogan. I do not believe that we should use the refugees as a political tool, they are people" , and noted once again that Turkey "care in a prominent way especially for Syrian refugees, has done a lot and we support this", to conclude by expressing the wish that the EU-Turkey Agreement be further developed, as she said, this is the best for the people

🔴 The military parade during Erdogan's visit to Occupied Cyprus revealed an interesting fact, the soldiers at the parade were carrying HK33 rifled which had their dust covers and bolts removed

🔴 Merkel commented on Erdogan's visit to Occupied Cyprus, said that there was "regression" by Erdogan's part but she also sees progress
>https://archive.is/QHt4X

📰 Article
[...]
🔸 "We have always argued that the channels of communication should be left open and in the Greek-Turkish relations we have already achieved some smaller steps (progress). These steps are now becoming more difficult, because regarding Cyprus, the Turkish President, deviating from the UN resolutions, focuses exclusively on a two-state solution, which of course is not accepted by the Cypriot side. Here we must now try to direct the talks under the auspices UN, with a lot of patience - and this is hard work - in the right direction. This was definitely a setback now, but we should not be discouraged by such setbacks"

🟢 Funny how Merkel avoid criticizing Erdogan and Turkey directly at all costs. The eternal G*rm strikes again

This bronze Buddha is one of the earliest Shakyamuni icons from the ancient region of Gandhara [Pakistan] 1st to mid-2nd c. AD. He sits holding his right hand in abhaya mudra. His radiating halo is reminiscent of the Greek God Helios, his robes & hair shows Greco-Roman influence.

This is one of the earliest depictions of the Buddha in human form. Gandharan artists were familiar with Greek and Roman art from military expeditions, diplomacy, and trade. This Buddha’s unique halo is reminiscent of depictions of the god Helios in Greek and Sol in Roman art. The drape of the tunic echoes Hellenistic and Roman garments, as well as depictions of the Iranian god Mithra, and the Roman god Mithras. @GreekLeague
One of the long-lasting legacies of Alexander's Indian conquests was a later East-West cultural syncretism creating a Greco-Buddhist art. Compare the above Gandhara Buddha with this Alexander-Helios image.

🔴 Turkey made a statement rejecting the UN's Security Council statement denouncing the reopening of Farmagusta
>https://archive.is/sGOtX

📰 Article
[...]
🔸 "We reject the Security Council statement" said a two-page statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Thursday night

🔸 "such statements are based on black propaganda and the baseless allegations of the Greek and Cypriot side, that Famagusta is not a territory of "northern cyprus", that it will plunder the property of the opened areas"

🔸 the Turkish Foreign Ministry is also trying to present the expansion of the opening areas of Famagusta, as an act of good will, claiming that the previous decisions of the UN Security Council are not violated by the Turkish Authorities

🔸 They reiterate Erdogan's "commitment" that the opening of Famagusta will not harm the interests of Cypriot owners who have been deprived of their property for 47 years, provided they appeal to a Turkish Cypriot Commission, thus recognizing the pseudo-state

🔴 After a shipwreck of a boat carrying illegal immigrants near Crete and at the coast of the Greek island of Kasos, two Turkish frigates arrived to the area, telling fishing boats assisting in the rescue that the rescue area was of Turkish jurisdiction, they were ignored
>https://archive.is/pf6nw

/GBG/
🟢 Turkey tries to base its "search and rescue" zone in the Turkish "blue homeland" doctrine in which it would own half of the aegean and even the sea around Greek islands and not giving them any EEZ, which goes against international law and against UNCLOS which recognizes islands as integral part of nations and also that every island has an EEZ

🟢 Such strategy is an attempt to legitimize its claims that it "owns" those waters, not even the fishermen care

Reconstruction of the Temple of Artemis.

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was located on the western coast of Asia Minor and built in the 6th century BC. Such was its tremendous size, double the dimensions of other Greek temples including the Parthenon, that it was soon regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The great Ionic temple survived until Late Antiquity and the Gothic invasion of c. 267 CE. Once again rebuilt, in 401 CE it was torn down for the last time by a Christian mob.

Antipater of Sidon’s wrote:

I have set eyes on the wall of lofty Babylon on which is a road for chariots, and the statue of Zeus by the Alpheus, and the hanging gardens, and the colossus of the Sun, and the huge labour of the high pyramids, and the vast tomb of Mausolus; but when I saw the house of Artemis that mounted to the clouds, those other marvels lost their brilliancy, and I said, “Lo, apart from Olympus, the Sun never looked on aught so grand. @GreekLeague
