С этого сообщения всё и началось ровно 2 года назад ...

🧑‍🎓HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ONLY UP BOOK CLUB !

Идея начать чтения вместе витала вокруг меня ещё со времен, как я жила и трудилась в родном Орехово-Зуево 💗 Помню в самом начале своего учительского пути разговор с моими первыми студентами начался с " А давайте почитаем ... Сомерсета Моэма в оригинале ?" ))) В группе были девочки и Миша, единственный мальчик,который вообще не понял что происходит,но кивнул ДА ))
И вот с этим банальным , простым, незатейливым " А давайте почитаем ...( пауза ) скажем, Джека Лондона? " я иду по жизни , соблазняя своей страстью к чтениям , пылкой как испанское фламенко .

Нам 2 года и даже не верится ! Прочитаны километры страниц , более 15 авторов , которые к нам зашли в гости на чашечку кофе ☕️
Я НАС ПОЗДРАВЛЯЮ 🥳🥳

Без вас , мои дорогие читатели, ничего бы не было и я бы произносила сакраментальную фразу ( см.выше ) в пустоту и можно было заключить,что Юлия начала страдать биполярным расстройством)))

Спасибо ! Просто спасибо,что вы есть и мы все вместе читаем, даже до пьес добрались ,помню , и есть ассонанс между нами, есть созвучие душ .

Вспомнился один эпизод из серии " А давайте почитаем ?" Была у меня группа из 6 young teenagers ( 11 - 12 лет) и я опять за своё " А давайте почитаем Fantastic Mr Fox ? " 😜 Roald Dahl ,на секундочку, в оригинале ) Готовила кучу материалов,чтобы не запищали с первого урока " фуууу..ничего не понятно" Потом был фильм , потом рисунки Мистера Фокса , а потом все 6 прискакали на урок с купленными изданиями на русском . Я не ожидала! Потом ещё мамы звонили,что Мистер Фокс нас покорил ))) А меня покорил блеск в глазах моих учеников, эта страсть к чтению на английском. До сих пор в моей копилочке памяти Мистер Фокс и эти 6 любознательных, активных детей.

Писать заканчиваю.... утомила вас 🤪

🫴Australian Reader's Digest 2025 comes across as a breath of fresh air to me . It really does !
In my humble opinion, the press worth your time and attention is dying out , sadly enough . I don't want to say " the end is nigh " for enjoying a magazine in your hands and being eager to get a new issue ...no , this isn't what I'm telling. The times have changed dramatically, to the worst I'd pessimistically say, and as we all know magazines/newspapers are the mirrors of society.
Ok, let's look on the bright side and my moto is " When life gives you lemons, make lemonade ! 🎶

Have you ever heard about LOLCAT ?? Honestly, I haven't...the way how it is called I mean 😎
From the Reader's Digest:

They originated in the early 1870s when a British photographer started taking pictures of his cats. First the photos were pretty standard , but then he realized..... ( the rest is on p.105 ) I'll attach the issue below the post for you 📎Enjoy!

What else is inside ? In the " Singapore stories " ,the article from the RD ,for example, we can jump into the topic of cooking and traditions , a whole lot of " live " words and expression to help us write or speak about our experiences.

A WELL OF KNOWLEDGE and relaxation / outdoorsy holiday for us ,Russian speakers - that is what Reader's Digest can give to us ( this issue definitely can ! )

For a Friday reading I've opted for online British newspapers 📰
The reasons why I read and take them for my lessons with students are

1. A variety of topics to every taste
2. Rich in modern English though sometimes " journalistic" only type of language ))
3. Take 1 article and base a whole lesson on it - easy !
4. To be caught up with the world of news
5. There's always something new to be learned from all angles of studying English
6. Joy and a kind of a refreshing daily/ weekend ritual

☀️I've made a list of the most appealing expressions to me and hope will be the same for you ( 2 articles, the links 🔽

1. " Most of us were fast approaching 50, but this group were about a decade younger, all attractive , successful, funny, - proper catches .

Друзья,делюсь книгой,которую мы активно читали на встречах клуба в 2023

✔️ STATE OF WONDER by Ann Patchett (USA)

The book is a world unto itself, a tale that leads into the very heart of darkness and then shows us what lies on the other side.

The book is populated by female protagonists, Dr Marina Singh ,a research scientist, Dr. Annick Swenson,working on an extremely valuable new drug.
There are also male characters like Anders Eckman,whom the pharmaceutical company had lost and Marina traveled to the Amazon jungles to find out what had happened in fact....

The novel was published in 2011. Ann Patchett masterfully draws her protagonists and asks metaphysical questions. There's also love,despair,choices and sentimentality. It's the most mature novel by Ann Patchett as critics claim.

I remember discussing the novel in our club back in 2023 and I also remember we fell in love with the book.

State of wonder turned out to be the book for deeper research for our club member @skoksenya ✍ it's great that books have such a power to inspire as well as our community ❤️
