To me, millions of people believing they have issues like ‘major depressive disorder’ is still one of the most alarming developments I’ve witnessed in my lifetime.

In my teens depression was a trendy social movement. It was considered cruel and insensitive to question its basis (the elusive chemical misfire in the brain) so everyone kind of just accepted it and avoided any real analysis of the issue.

It’s now become a whole nation with its own internal identity structure, and its own religion of ‘the-self’, victimhood and perpetual sadness.

Half the country now identifies more with ‘depression’ than with their own nationality, sometimes to the point where they’ll physically mutilate themselves in order to be properly distinguished as a member of depression gang.

It’s easily the most bizarre thing about modernity. Depression, drugs, ‘me and my disorder’… It’s incredible marketing and in my opinion demonstrates more clearly than anything else why a church and a strong sense of nationality are so important to a community.

The Greeks cultivated a high culture: the culture of the body, believing that those who excelled in physical prowess were most favored by the Gods, and that nobility arose from this distinction.
