The Drake Equation is a formula used to estimate the number of active, communicative extraterrestrial civilizations in our galaxy. Created by astronomer Frank Drake in 1961, it combines several factors: the rate of star formation, the fraction of stars with planets, the number of habitable planets per star, the probability of life developing, the chance of intelligent life evolving, the likelihood of civilizations developing detectable communication technology, and the lifespan of such civilizations. While speculative, the equation helps frame our understanding of the search for extraterrestrial life.

Hey folks, I’m planning to assemble a full range of math and physics books, from beginner to grad level, and share them. I’ll also add a roadmap to guide those who are finding it tough to start. How many of you would benefit from this? If I made these available…
Alright, let's kick things off with the basics: math! Having a solid understanding of math is super important before going deep into physics.
First up, Calculus, both single-variable and multivariable is a must learn. You'll see it pop up all over the place as you explore different areas of physics. For example, multivariable calculus is basically the backbone of subjects like fluid dynamics and electromagnetic theory.
Next on the list is Linear Algebra. It's just as important as calculus and shows up everywhere, from solving complex differential equations to forming the core concepts in quantum mechanics.
To help you get started, I've got a few go-to books that make learning calculus and linear algebra much more approachable. These resources have been incredibly helpful in my own studies, and I'm sure they'll serve you well too.

Along with the books, I recommend checking out two excellent video lecture series. For calculus, there's the complete course by Professor Leonard, which breaks down the concepts really well. For linear algebra, you can't go wrong with the legendary Gilbert Strang himself—his lectures are top notch and super insightful. You can also use video courses on Khan Academy but Im not big fan of them :)

Calculus is like the ultimate toolkit for understanding change and motion. It lets you zoom in on the tiniest details of how things move or grow (that’s derivatives) and helps you add up an infinite number of tiny parts to find areas and volumes (that’s integrals). It’s like unlocking the secrets of the universe’s flow.

Linear Algebra is the language of space and structure. It’s all about vectors and matrices. Imagine manipulating entire systems at once, rotating objects, or solving multiple equations in one go. It’s the backbone of everything from quantum mechanics to computer graphics.

General physics is the study of the fundamental principles that govern the natural world. It covers a wide range of topics, including motion, energy, heat, light, electricity, magnetism, waves and modern physics. Essentially, it's an exploration of the basic laws that explain how everything around us behaves.
After reading a book on general physics, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of how the universe operates at a fundamental level. You'll learn how to apply these principles to solve real world problems, which is essential for further studies in any scientific or engineering field. This knowledge forms the foundation for more specialized areas of physics, such as classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, relativity, and thermodynamics.
The following books are the most used and known books on General Physics out there, go with just one of them, I'd recommend you go with Resnick Haliday.

I'd generally recommend doing the math first then general physics but other people may recommend doing both simultaneously since general physics mostly needs the concept of derivatives and integrals which are not so advanced, a week studying will get you there. It's your choice!

While classical mechanics might sound intimidating, it's essentially a sophisticated extension of the mechanics you learn in introductory physics textbooks like Resnick Halliday. It's like taking those basic tools and building a whole new toolbox filled with advanced techniques.
Classical mechanics digs deeper into the fundamental principles of motion and energy, employing a more elegant mathematical language to express those ideas. Where introductory physics often relies on direct application of Newton's laws, classical mechanics utilizes Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics. These approaches offer a more powerful and efficient way to solve complex problems involving forces and motion.
Imagine trying to build a complex structure. Newtonian mechanics is like using a hammer and nails. It's effective, but limited. Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics are like specialized tools that let you build intricate structures with greater precision and ease. They offer a more abstract and elegant approach to solving problems that would be much harder with traditional methods.
So, while classical mechanics might appear advanced, it's essentially a more sophisticated way to explore the mechanics we already know. It allows us to tackle problems with more grace and efficiency, making it an essential tool for scientists and engineers.
