Oral FcRn-targeted insulin: Challenges and current strategies

Congratulations to this amazing team: Dr. Ava Aghakhani, Dr. Farbod Bahreini, Dr. Vladimir N. Uversky, and Dr. Nima Rezaei, for their incredible contributions.

This article reviews advances in developing oral insulin delivery using FcRn targeting to replace injections in diabetes treatment. While FcRn can transport insulin across the gut, challenges like enzyme degradation and low absorption remain. Strategies such as FcRn-binding molecules and protective formulations are being explored. Although promising, more research is needed to make oral insulin therapy safe and effective.
