Title: Frieze patterns and cluster theory

Abstract: Cluster categories and cluster algebras can be described via triangulations of surfaces
or via Postnikov diagrams. In type A, such triangulations lead to frieze patterns or SL_2-friezes in
the sense of Conway and Coxeter. We explain how infinite frieze patterns arise and discuss their
growth behavior. In particular, we show that tame module categories yield friezes with linear growth.

Abstract:
My objective is to give a survey of the role of support varieties in the representation theory of finite groups.
Support varieties provide a rough classification of group representations, and the theory of support varieties has been a significant motivator in recent developments in the area of triangulated categories.
We will discuss where the ideas come from and how they affect developments in modern algebra.
