Niantic published some information about the upcoming +Gamma Anomaly Season, which will be played during Q1 2026!

As previously mentioned, three different Anomaly Badges will be obtainable for Agents:

🥉500 +Gamma Tokens

Tokens can be obtained by attending an IFS event (2,500 +Gamma Tokens), completing Global Campaigns (7,000 +Gamma Tokens) and completing the Anomaly Campaign (5,000 +Gamma Tokens). Special Events which will award +Gamma Tokens were also mentioned.

Commemorative +Gamma Onsite Medal
Earned by participating in any Anomaly Event onsite. This Medal is single-tiered.

Global Campaign Medal
Based on the performance of Agents in the Global Campaign. This Medal is 3-tiered, but more details on the tiers will be published soon.

Additionally, as a new mechanic in this Anomaly Season, Ingress First Saturday Events become part of the Anomaly Series Score!
Each Agent participating in an IFS Event will award 0.1 Season Points to their Faction up to a cap of 300 points. Each Agent will only award this score once per month, no matter the number of IFS Events they participate in.

Other notable changes:
🔸The number of Bounties during an Anomaly decreases to 5, with a single hack awarding 3.000 +Gamma Tokens, and the other 4 Bounties awarding the remaining 2.000.

In response to recent inquiries from Agents following the release of +Gamma Season details, we have received reports from Agents in contact with NIA.S operatives that Remote Recharge is not planned to be brought back as a way to earn any Anomaly credit or medal.

Remote Recharging was removed from the list of valid interactions to obtain Anomaly medals back in Q1 2025, during the +Alpha Series.

Agents worldwide are reporting issues with logging onto the game.

This is likely due to the expiration of the SSL certificate of https://prod-ingress.ingress.com, the domain on which the game runs.

Delays can be expected as this is also a weekend, but we'll update this post and add comments as we and the community know more.

Update: Agents are advising to set your device time to yesterday to log into the game. This indication is to be used at your own risk.

Just in case you were wondering: Yes, the game is currently still not working as expected. As of this point we have also not received any communication from Niantic Spatial or the Ingress team about the issue, and it is unknown if any of the current events will be extended, hacking streaks extended or compensation of any kind given.

This is likely due to the whole infrastructure returning to its normal state, so don't be surprised: it should all be fine in a bit.

As a compensation for the earlier problems with accessing the game, Niantic now offers a free bundle to all agents containing the following:

With the Ingress 3.1.2 update that was released in the middle of December Agents on Android have reported that the Portal Nomination flow is broken. Specifically, once you have entered the Portal Title and press OK, the noscript automatically clears up and doesn't save and it is impossible to even start typing the Portal Denoscription, breaking the Nomination flow.

A workaround until this is fixed is to use the "Enter" button on your phones keyboard instead of the OK button that most people normally press. This saves the Portal Title as expected and you can continue with the Nomination flow as normal to submit your Portal.

This does not seem to work for everyone and might depend on the keyboard you use. If you have issues with this workaround, try installing a different Keyboard from Google Play such as SwiftKey.

This post is a copy of a recent @IUENG_Extra post, but as quite a few Agents have asked about this issue in our discussion group we feel like it is worth it to post on the main channel as well. If you have seen this post already, apologies about the ping!

We are also aware of a submission issue on iOS where sometimes the denoscription is accidently copied into the noscript, overwriting it. Before submitting your nomination, double check that everything looks fine and check your submission email once it arrives. If there is an issue you will still be able to fix it in OPR if you have access.

Niantic Spatial has released an Incident Report for the network failure last week during which players were not able to log into the Ingress app for several hours. This report, while written in an "in-universe" style, does seem to be an honest post mortem about the blackout. From the document, we can glean the following:

The root cause of the nine-hour outage was a failed automated renewal of an SSL Certificate. The failure occurred because the renewal noscript still contained hardcoded references to "NianticLabs." In real-world terms, this points to a conflict arising from the game's recent corporate transition: while the game has been spun out to the new "Niantic Spatial," the legacy code still pointed towards the old "Niantic Labs" entity, causing the automated system to reject the update due to the naming mismatch.

The restoration took nearly nine hours because the monitoring systems failed to immediately recognize the severity of the issue. Since active players were not kicked out immediately but only lost access once their sessions naturally timed out, the traffic volume decayed gradually rather than dropping sharply. The automated sensors misinterpreted this as a natural decline in player activity rather than a systemic crash. Compounding this issue was human error; duty officers observed anomalous data early in the event but dismissed it, mistaking the signal for a known, non-critical glitch that was already in the queue.

To prevent a recurrence, Niantic Spatial has implemented several new remediation protocols. These include dedicated alerts specifically for SSL expirations that bypass general traffic sensors, as well as tuned diagnostics capable of detecting "slow decay" connectivity patterns. Furthermore, internal communication protocols have been overhauled to require strict confirmation on alerts, ensuring that staff can no longer dismiss major system anomalies as minor, pre-existing glitches.

So... Someone actually did the math on recursing multiple times in a day

You know how in the Ingress Community we joke about speedrunning recursion? Well, Agent @Gordog went and actually figured out that it's theoretically possible to recurse three times in a single day!

They attempted a different technique to accomplish their feat by throwing links from the inside out of a group of Portals instead of using the classic spine method.

Now here's where it gets wild: with Very Rare Battle Beacons and the right setup, each cycle netted Gordon ~669k AP, which would allow them to complete all 16 Access Levels and wait out the recursion timer in just 15 hours.
But remember when Niantic announced the New Year event doubling the effect of Apex boosts and overlapping with the First Saturday effectively making the bonus 8x AP? That makes reaching L16 and recursing three times in one day mathematically possible. 6am prep and first recurse, 15 beacons, wait out the timer, recurse, another 15 beacons, recurse again before midnight, each Recursion taking roughly 7.5 hours!

Unfortunately, Gordon hit some technical snags and wasn't able to complete the challenge, recursing only twice. Could this be an inspiration source for someone willing to accomplish the impossible at the next possible 8x AP window?

The required inventory for their specific setup was bonkers:
- 30 battle beacons
- 15 APEX boosts
- 300 SoftBank Ultra Links
- 1200 L1 resonators
- 3600 pre-farmed keys (150 of each portals)
- 15 portals to rotate through (because of BB's victory emblem cooldown)
