Literacy is cratering and this is only one aspect of the Archaic Revival—the return to pre-Axial life inside of modernity. As this archaic worldview revives, many good things will happen: we will again become tied to the land, to our kin, etc. But we will also lose some important things. In this, final article in this series, we take you through the pros and cons of this epochal shift.

As the tribal future dawns, it brings with it a world of wonder and terror. Only those who see it clearly now will be able to navigate it proactively. It is my hope that some of you take up the tools in the present moment, before the present moment swallows everything.

We have seen that the unctuous, deracinated Puritan ‘pioneer’ did not consider his land as the symbol of his lineage but as a temporary possession convertible into dollars at any moment.

If someone says "collectivism is bad", everything else they say should be disregarded. All politics are collective because society is collective.

And what you'll find is that these people always support collectivism for the groups who they actually like.

Fascinating.

The last two posts are saying nearly the same thing. Very different reactions.

When you call it "individualism," hating it is good. When you point to the source of individualism, hating it is bad.

The atomized individual was not born yesterday. He is the product of a 3000-year old mistake. One that is being rolled back before our eyes, by the very structure of postmodernity. None of us could save him even if we wanted to.

We're losing the atomized individual—and that's a good thing. But with him goes a whole bunch of things that we're sentimentally attached to, but which rendered him inevitable, and could not have led to anything other than individualism. We're attached to these other things, but they're part of the problem. Even more than he is.

Good riddance to all of it.

A barbarian chieftain sits upon his throne, the skulls of his enemies and beasts he hunted mounted upon his walls. “Advisors!” He called to the men in his hall. “My subjects are leaving hotdogs on my posts! Why do they hate my wisdom?”

His advisors contemplated why this might be so. For one saying might be well received, while another nearly identical to the first, would be dogged. Then one man approached his king, declaring to have an answer. “My king these are marks of respect and approval.”

“How is this so?” The chief asked.

“In the land of grills and dads the hot dog is a favored food. It is a symbol of freedom and leisure for a man to grill for his gods’ sake.”

The chief nodded and was pleased. “Then let every post be dogged!” He proclaimed.

NEW BOOK: The Cult of Incompetence

A sharp critique of democracy, arguing that mass rule systematically elevates mediocrity, politicizes institutions, and erodes respect for competence, hierarchy, and judgment.

In this timeless classic, Émile Faguet delivers a brilliant critique of democracy and its elevation of the average. The Cult of Incompetence argues that where equality reigns, competence and wisdom perish.

Faguet dissects how modern mass government—for all its ideals—ends up venerating the low and empowering the inept. He paints a compelling portrait of parliaments churning out frivolous laws, officials chosen for loyalty over skill, and a society cheerfully sinking into a self-inflicted mediocrity.

Reading The Cult of Incompetence today, one is struck by how many of Faguet’s observations anticipate ongoing issues in liberal democracies. In the current year, when social media discourse treats progressive apologia as equal to timeless wisdom, the “cult of incompetence” perhaps has metastasized in ways Faguet could only imagine. At once provocative and erudite, this reactionary masterpiece champions the old-world virtues of knowledge, hierarchy, and earned authority.

Nature creates species; it does not create beings. The species is the end; the being is only the servant of that end. It is the nature of the individual to be deluded about his destiny and to believe he was born for himself.
