Marines from Mariupol have released a statement to Ukrainians. Marines of the 36th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, that are surrounded together with other forces and are defending the city from Russian invaders, recorded a video address in which they appealed to the Ukrainian people.
“We are grateful to each Ukrainian who believes in the Marines. And keeps on believing. This faith allowed us to hold this position for such a long time. And we have remained forever faithful”, says the serviceman.

8 years ago, on April 12, 2014, a russian sabotage detachment led by a russian citizen Igor Girkin (Strelkov) captured the cities of Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and a number of smaller settlements in the Donetsk region.

After weeks of destabilization in eastern Ukraine, it was the first open armed incursion by separatists and russian mercenaries. Local corrupt law enforcement officers did not put up any real resistance. Much of the local government representatives also supported the invaders. As a result, units of several dozen people in each city soon grew into an army of thousands orcs with armored vehicles. Pro-Ukrainian residents tried to protest, but were threatened and outright attacked. Very soon, the captured cities faced real signs of the russian world - looting, robbery, hostage-taking and murder of civilians. Only in early July Sloviansk and Kramatorsk were liberated by Ukrainian forces and russians were first time coping with their "tactical retreat" bullshit.

Back in the February and March of 2014, Igor Girkin participated in the military invasion of Crimea peninsula. He and his men supported russian armored forces. In November of the same year he said in the interview to russian newspaper "Zavtra":
"I was the one who pulled the trigger of this war. If our unit hadn't crossed the border, everything would have fizzled out — like in Kharkiv, like in Odessa. There would have been several dozen killed, burned, detained. And that would have been the end of it. But the flywheel of the war, which is continuing to this day, was spun by our unit. We mixed up all the cards on the table"

One aspect of the war that isn't talked about is the impact on children. There isn't a good way to talk about this and understandably most people try not to think about it but what is going to happen to those children?

The Russian mentality clearly allows for wanton murder and sexual violence, regardless of age or gender. In fact there is ample evidence of the average Russian condoning such acts.

As people have pointed out, there are no specific laws against Child pornography in Russian, I have come to the unfortunate understanding that many of these children will be abused in Russia, more than likely because they are Ukrainian and this is the Russian way of taking revenge. I truly hope these children don't suffer that fate but as we know, Russians have no sense of honour or decency. The reality of the situation is children will have been stolen from their home, culture and families and subjected to cruelties.
