A man once came to a wise sage and asked:

— How can I become wise? 🤔 The sage replied:

— Go outside and stand on the other side of the door. 🚪

The man was surprised but did as he was told: he went outside and stood there. It was pouring rain, and soon he was soaked to the bone. 🌧️ After half an hour, he couldn’t take it anymore and returned.

— I stood outside, but what did I gain from it? — he asked the sage. — Did anything change?

— While standing in the pouring rain, didn’t anything become clear to you? — the sage asked.

— What could I possibly learn? — the man protested. — I got soaked and felt like a complete fool!

— You made an important discovery, — said the sage. — If a person can admit they are a fool, then the first step is taken. That is the beginning of wisdom.
