Very important point: the scenes at Kabul airport are indeed dramatic and should be reported. However, the relative calm of the rest of the city should also be noted.

Interesting how afghans still wear the same caps ( pakool, پکول, or you might hear it called a Chitrali cap ) that the Macedons introduced there 2300 years ago, the same macedonians who were known to the Persians only as "Ionians with shield hats"
1 picture) terracotta figure of a “Macedonian boy” (from Athens, about 300BC) in the British Museum:
the kausia seemed to have functioned for Macedonians pretty much as the kilt does for Scots, the defining garment of a Macedonian man.

The idea that a people could experience liberalism and democracy and then choose Sharia law anyway is so horrifying to western liberals that they won't even consider it a possibility.
They will just carry on assuming that Afghans really want liberalism no matter what.
To accept the idea that democracy is a good system for some, and harsh theocratic rule is better for others suggests that there are differences between groups beyond economic cultural. Horrifying!
Most people in the West without religious faith cannot ever understand the Middle East, South or Central Asia.
They cannot understand Afghanistan, Palestine, Israel.
( They can't even understand the West of a generation ago )
They can't fathom that people in that part of the world answer to a higher calling than "liberal values."
Liberals also falsely believe all illiberal social structures were arbitrarily constructed and that in a blank slate all people would adopt liberalism given free choice.
