This is a form of permaculture known as hugelkultur. The main idea behind this method is to bury logs, twigs, sticks, leaves, and other organic matter in dirt and/or manure. The plants grown on these mounds will keep the soil together and penetrate that organic matter. As time goes on, the rotting matter time-released nutrients into the soil and creates heat. This makes it so that you don't have to bother with artificial fertilization every year. This mimics the way plants grow in the forest for your own benefit. There are a myriad of ways to implement hugelkultur in your homestead so go crazy with it.

With hugelkultur there is no more worrying about tilling, field rotation, razing crops, fertilization, or irrigation.

If you do raised beds, this helps with not stooping so much (for those with bad backs or knees), and it retains moisture better. The taller the beds the more moisture it retains. However, the construction of these beds makes it so that the plants don't drown. Water pools in the bottom of the bed and is pulled up by the wood for the roots to access. This way no irrigation is necessary.

Raised beds also maximize on space. The triangular shape of beds allows for almost twice the amount of growing area in a smaller portion of land and making it more accessable.
Instead of a flat 6x6 foot square where you have trouble walking in between your plants, you can have that 6 feet of growing area in 3 feet AND have easy access to all the plants.

Mithridatic Accelerationism

Not to withdraw from the process, but to go further, to ‘accelerate the process’, as Nietzsche put it: in this matter, the truth is that we haven’t seen anything yet.”
