Our lives are either spent in doing nothing at all, or in doing nothing to the purpose, or in doing nothing that we ought to do. We are always complaining that our days are few, and acting as though there would be no end of them.

Saturnalia was an Ancient Roman Midwinter celebration analogous to the Norse Yule and the Vedic Makaraa Sankrānti (मकर संक्रांति). The festivities involved public sacrificial rites, feasting and the private exchange of gifts; it was dedicated to the God Sāturnus. The Latins, and other Italic peoples, would decorate their homes and temples with evergreen plants, which symbolise the everlasting sun which returns anew following the solstice.

Sāturnus, or Saturn, is the deity of numerous realms but most importantly in this context, He governs time and periodic renewal.

A dharmapāla is a type of wrathful god in Buddhism. The name means "Dharma protector or defender" in Sanskrit, and the dharmapālas are also known as the Defenders of the Law (Dharma), or the Protectors of the Law.

Dharmapalas are fearsome creatures, but they are not evil. They are bodhisattvas who appear in terrifying form to protect Buddhists and Buddhism.
