The princess pleaded with Richard to make an escape, but he would not hear of it. He instead asked her for forty silk handkerchiefs, and bound them around his right arm.
When the lion found his way to Richard’s cell and attacked, Richard reached his arm down the lion’s throat and pulled out its heart.
