〜The poet Vigil denoscription of Saturnia Hotspring

There is a place in the middle of Italy, beneath lofty mountains,
now sounding with the roar of the stream; a scene of wide pools,
which, without any view of walls or hills,
is wondrous to behold. Around it, on the left beneath a cliff,
in a deep cavern, are sweet waters and seats of living rock,
the home of nymphs.〜The poet Vigil denoscription of Saturnia Hotspring
29 and 19 BC, during the reign of the Emperor Augustus.

Sir John Glubb - The Fate of Empires.
‘The influx of foreigners’: He observes that one frequent phenomenon in the decline of cities is the influx of foreigners. Foreigners are attracted by affluence, & take on jobs which often the citizens do not want to do themselves
But they can be weak links in the society for various reasons, such as: they will be less willing to sacrifice their lives and property for the nation and they form communities of their own that protect their own interests above that of the nation.

Fernando III, also known as Saint Ferdinand, was a powerful Christian monarch who ruled Castile and Leon from 1217 to 1252.
He was an exceptional military leader who reclaimed more Moorish territory than any other European king and he never lost a battle.
Fernando III was a devout Catholic who was canonized as a saint .
As a child, Fernando III fell gravely ill, and his mother prayed over him without ceasing and when hope was almost gone she took him before a shrine to the Blessed Virgin.
Then she said ;
“Remember that he is thy servant, and thou must cure him if thou desire any service of him!”
Fernando miraculously made it through the night. The boy still had life in him and, went on to become one of the all-timers.
