Norway is dismantling their very last Arctic coal mine and turning the place into a national park
The target is to switch the Svalbard Archipelago, into a howling wilderness
Where polar bears, seals, and a great number of other Arctic species can prosper.
Seven national parks, 15 bird sanctuaries, 1 geopark, and six reserves dot two-thirds of the 23,500 square mile (61,000 sq. km) archipelago of islands, fjords, mountains, and glaciers. 3,000 polar bears inhabit the area, and during the late summertime much more than 20 million birds of 80 distinctive species nest on Svalbard.
