Within the Four Courts, Franciscan Priest, Fr. Albert, shares the news that the Free State Army is mobilising. As the complex is surrounded, the IRA say the rosary. Tension had been brewing since Anti-Treaty IRA began occupying the Four Courts & other buildings since April 16th.
On 22th June 1922, this tension hit its breaking point with the assassination of Sir Henry Wilson in London. Sir Henry Wilson was one of the chief negotiators in the Anglo-Irish Treaty, who wanted no compromise & was advocating the British Government to do a full scale invasion of Ireland. It is said that Michael Collins, president of the IRB, and not the Anti-Treaty forces, gave the order for his assassination. Its a debated topic on who ordered the hit. Whoever did it, the British now threatened to invade and re-occupy all of Ireland if the Free State didn't do something about those occupying the Four Courts. And so, it was passed this day that the Free State were to get them out.

The Anti-Treaty forces also on the 26th June kidnapped J. J. "Ginger" O'Connell, now Deputy Chief of Staff in the Free State Army. This kidnapping was in reprisal for the arrest of anti-treaty officer, Leo Henderson.
