The sculpture by Pericle Fazzini is located in the Paul VI Audience Hall in Rome and was put in place in 1977. The Resurrection sculpture depicts Jesus rising from a nuclear crater in the Garden of Gethsemane. It "intends" to capture the anguish of 20th century mankind living under the threat of nuclear war.
Did you know the sculpture's dimensions are 66 ft × 23 ft × 10 ft?

When you view the statue from the sides, where patrons would sit, it becomes clear from both sides that the head is meant to look like that of a snake. When it looks this way from all angles, and the entire building resembles a snake as well, it's difficult to ignore the snake symbolism here.
The Pope is speaking from the mouth of the snake as he stands in front of the mouth and decieves the world. Via symbolism, satan is telling those with the eyes to see that this is what’s happening, and that he is behind it all.
