“End Times” or “Time of the End”

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Daniel 12:4 (LXX) refers to “καιρὸς συντελείας” (kairos synteleias), often translated as “the time of the end.”

But let’s look at the Greek word συντελείας, translated as “End.” It has six distinct meanings, each offering a different perspective:
1. Joint Contribution (Public Burdens):
συντελεία can refer to a collective financial or logistical contribution toward public expenses—like taxes or military recruitment. An “end” in this sense is not destruction but a shared obligation or burden.

2. An Assembly or Union (Community or Divine Gathering):
In another sense, συντελεία describes a group or union, such as citizens jointly supporting a cause or a company of gods. Here, “end” suggests completion through unity, not termination.

3. Completion of a Plan or Fulfillment of Purpose:
This is συντελεία as the consummation of a process, goal, or strategy—the final execution of a plan rather than an abrupt ending. It’s about reaching the intended result.
4. Unjust Gain or Corruption:
In some contexts, συντελεία refers to unlawful profit or wickedness—where “end” is not merely a conclusion but an outcome driven by greed or moral decay.

5. Grammatical Completion (Perfected Action):
In grammar, συντελεία signifies an action that has been fully completed

6. True Reality or Full Actualization:
The final meaning relates to entelechy, the concept of something reaching its fullest potential or true nature—not just an ending, but a state of ultimate fulfillment.

So when Daniel 12:4 speaks of “καιρὸς συντελείας”, is it really just about destruction—or does it point to something far more layered?

Does it mean the world is ending, or that a plan is being finalized?

Is this a collapse, a fulfillment, or an engineered outcome?

Think about it.

Now let’s look how the term is described in other passages:

συντέλεια τοῦ αἰῶνος (synteleia tou aiōnos) – Matthew 24:3, 28:20
•συντέλεια (synteleia) = Again, this means completion or consummation.
•αἰών (aiōn) = An age or era, not just the world.
•Meaning: This phrase means “the completion of the age,” not necessarily the end of the world, but rather the culmination of a specific period in God’s plan.

ἔσχαται ἡμέραι (eschatai hēmerai) – Hebrews 1:2, 2 Timothy 3:1
•ἔσχατος (eschatos) = Literally means “last” or “final.”
•ἡμέραι (hēmerai) = Days.
•Meaning: This phrase directly translates to “last days” and is often used to refer to the final era before a major divine intervention.

τέλος (telos) – Matthew 24:6, 1 Peter 4:7
•τέλος (telos) = End, goal, or purpose.
•Meaning: Sometimes used to describe the end of a process rather than an absolute termination. In Matthew 24:6, Jesus says, “the end (τέλος) is not yet,” implying a sequence of events leading to fulfillment.

Comparison & Meaning
•Daniel 12:4 (καιρὸς συντελείας) suggests a planned culmination, not just a sudden stop.
•Matthew’s synteleia tou aiōnos supports this idea of an age reaching completion.
•ἔσχαται ἡμέραι emphasizes the final era before a transition.
•τέλος sometimes refers to a goal-oriented end rather than annihilation.

In biblical Greek, “End Times” isn’t just about destruction—it’s about a completion, transition, or fulfillment of something already set in motion.
