🇬🇧🙀@COVID19Up: Ministers briefly considered ordering all domestic cats in Britain to be killed amid fears they could be spreading COVID-19, former health minister Lord Bethell has admitted.

It comes after The Daily Telegraph published details from over 100,000 leaked WhatsApp messages between ministers, officials and scientists throughout the pandemic.

Lord Bethell told Channel 4 News: "What we shouldn't forget is how little we understood about this disease."

"There was a moment we were very unclear about whether domestic pets could transmit the disease," he added.

"In fact, there was an idea at one moment that we might have to ask the public to exterminate all the cats in Britain."

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”
