In 1995, I won a lottery to attend a magnet school for technology in 5th grade.
It was amazing because the internet was in its infancy, and this school was heavily funded by the state. Once a week, we were able to FaceTime with other students around the world, something completely new and unheard of. As kids, we were taught the internet was going to change the world for the better, and knowledge would be plentiful... boy, were we wrong. We spoke to other kids in Germany, England, Japan, France, Canada, and Australia. I very clearly remember my jeet classmate asking our teacher if any schools had this technology in India and the answer was flat out no. 95' was also when China was still only making plastic toys as exports, and the same answer was for them.
My God... I still wish it was that way.
