I strongly suspect that this has to do with the massive IRS problem that OpenAI has been lobbying and litigating around over the past six months.
Imagine you start a non-profit. You don’t pay taxes. Not even sales tax when you buy office equipment, etc. People give billions of dollars to your group and write it off like a non-profit donation
You build a whole multi-billion dollar product at this “non-profit”. All while simultaneously taking in R&D (and other) tax credits that aren’t even for you.
Then you say “JK 🤪 It’s gonna be a publicly traded C corp now and we’re gonna make billions.”

It’s an absolute sin that the ophthalmologists haven’t built a lobbying organization strong enough to make LASIK the standard of care in America.
The optometrist, glasses and contact lens lobby is absolutely out of control. They’re some of the most mendacious operators in Washington DC.

I often hear Republicans say “Don’t spend another dime manufacturing munitions for Ukraine! Spend that money on X instead.”
But the X isn’t realistic. The money would have never be spent on the X. There is NO serious interest group in DC pushing money to be spent on the X.
Compared with the other things that the money would REALISTICALLY be spent on, spending it on expanding munitions manufacturing capacity, which is mostly in deep red flyover districts, is a very good use of the money.

As Matt Gaetz for calls for not spending another dime on manufacturing munitions for Ukraine, he is simultaneously pushing a $100M earmark to build a couple of lousy helicopter hangers in his district.
An earmark like that is almost always a complete scam.

This is many women’s idea of a “clear direction” for their life. Not a simple list of priorities. Instead, something they call a “vision board” that looks like the work of an untreated psychotic.
If a man is found with something like that hanging on the wall, he’s immediately hauled off to the loony bin.
The Justice Department says it has caught a Cuban spy who operated within the State Department for over 40 years, rising to the rank of US Ambassador to Bolivia.
This looks even worse than Ana Montes.
