Koro-go (コロ号), born in September 1935 on the island of Shikoku, is considered the mother of the modern Shiba Inu breed. She was a black and tan female with a strong build and exemplary type. She was awarded the prestigious Award of Merit twice at NIPPO dog shows in 1938 and 1940. Together with the legendary male Ishi-go (石号), she laid the foundation for today’s Shiba. Their pairing set the direction for the breed’s future development. For this reason, Koro-go is recognized as the most important founding dogs of the Shiba Inu lineage.
