The Seventh Nullifier:

Sihr (magic). Linguistically: That where the cause and effect, process, or means is hidden and subtle is called sihr. Based upon that the end of the night is referred to as “sihra,” because it is the night’s darkest. Technically: There is no precise definition here for sihr due to its numerous types and categories. Therefore each type and category has its own specific definition attached to it. If one was to give a general definition then there are some generally acceptable ones such as: “It is a comprehensive term for every specified thing from illusions, tricks, and forbidden hidden matters."

Issue: When is sihr considered a nullifier? By knowing its categories the nullifier becomes clear, because not every category and type is a nullifier.

Its categories are:

1. The sihr of the incantation, amulets, and particular symbols.

The technical definition for this category is: the incantation and amulets used to separate a man from his spouse - with the permission of Allah. That is the definition given by ibn Qudamah for this type, and it is a nullifier because it involves seeking assistance from the devils and consists of actions that are major shirk. What is commonly known as “sarf,” is an example; it is to divert a person from someone he used to love, whether a woman or land. And the opposite of sarf is what is known as “‘atf.” Where one makes a person love something he used to hate. Another example is “sihr at-takhbil (magic tricks),” and it is what causes illusion to the eye so that it sees contrary to reality, such as viewing a stick as a snake, which is the sihr of the magicians of Fir‘awn. He (ta‘ala) said: “Then behold, their ropes and their sticks, by their magic, appeared to him as though they moved fast.” An example that occurs in modern times are the stunt and circus tricks where the magicians cut the head of an individual off and then returns it back… Or eats a whole snake, or pushes a car with his hair, and what is similar to all that. And so this [type of] sihr is a nullifier, and the criterion for what classifies it as such is “to practice matters that are not real,” which is beyond the ability of man to do. However, with regards to what is in the realm of some men to do whom Allah has given physical strength, such as bending a metal bar, then this is not from the types of sihr. But in the flying or walking in the air then that is from sihr at-takhyili.

2. The sihr of adwiyah and ‘aqaqir; they are concoctions which affect the brain resulting in imaginary fantasies. Regarding this category there occurs a difference of opinion amongst ahlul-‘ilm.

a. The first opinion is that of the Shafi‘iyyah who said this type of sihr is not kufr, and that the one who performs it is not a kafir. It is simply a form of oppression and transgression against others and corruption on earth. They said because the devils do not enter into this type. It is a narration within the madhhab, as well.[37]

b. The second opinion states that this is considered kufr because it is included within the scope of sihr and that is using hidden things that are not normal in order to change and affect the minds of people and their behaviors. They used the general proofs regarding sihr to prove like His (ta‘ala) saying: “And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited … teaching people magic.” And the ayah: “...who believe in jibt and taghut…” And jibt is sihr. And hadith of Abu Hurayrah in the sahih: “Avoid the seven destructive matters…”
Shaykh Sulayman ibn ‘Abdillah in his book Taysir al-‘Aziz al-Hamid in the chapter on sihr, after mentioning this difference of opinion, said: “There is no difference between the two opinions in reality. For the one who refrains from takfir thinks that sihr can be performed without shirk involved; but that is not the case. Rather, there is no sihr except through the devils and what involves shirk and the worship of the devils and stars… As for what is referred to as “sihr adwiyah,” which is performed with smoke and the likes, then this is not sihr but it is nonetheless considered prohibited due to its harmful effects, and the one who performs such should be punished.”

As for the type which the author intended, then it is the first type. Whereas the second type, what is correct is that it is a nullifier, but due to the difference of opinion one does not disbelieve until the hujjah (textual proof) is established. Where there occurs a [valid] disagreement one is excused due to ignorance. But as for the nullifier that has a consensus surrounding it, one is not excused if he was to live amongst the Muslimin.

The author categorized sihr into two categories: 1) The knowledge of sihr (i.e., learning and teaching). 2) Believing in sihr. The author said “whoever performs it (the sihr which consists of sarf and ‘atf) has disbelieved,” and he disbelieves by the mere action, regardless of what he believes even if he was to say: “I hate sihr,” or: “I don’t view it permissible, but I performed it for some worldly purpose and benefit.”

And the second category mentioned by the author is belief, as he said “or is pleased with it,” and - or - here signifies variation and that it is another category apart from the other. So whoever is pleased with sihr then he is a kafir even if he did not perform it.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said one time, sometimes a cloud comes over my heart and I seek refuge in Allah and I ask for Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him every single day seventy times. That's our Prophet, the best man Allah created, the Messenger of Allah who Allah had forgiven all of his past and future sins. The same messenger of Allah who used to offer prayer at such length that his heels would become swollen and bleed. Once upon witnessing this, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked him: Why do you do that to yourself O Messenger of Allah when Allah has forgiven all your sins past and future?! He replied, O Aisha, should I not be a grateful slave of Allah?!

That's our excellent example, the Prophet. We should hasten to what the Prophet commanded us and his tradition. We should emulate him in all matters. He was sent as a mercy to mankind paving the way to paradise for us, a path of illumination surrounded by much darkness and evil which would have entangled and grasped us.

Hasten to all that which is good while you have been given the opportunity, you have been given life, health and more importantly capability in whatever you're able to do. Do not wait around until it's too late and you are replaced. Allah is not in need of your good rather you are in need of Allah's acceptance and mercy. Do not be of those who return to Allah - when it's too late - repeating: Alas, my grief, I have been undutiful to Allah. I did not do what Allah commanded me to do and I did not follow the command of His beloved Messenger!

Through feminism, women make themselves subservient to whims of men whilst imagining that they're defying them.

It's ironic how one of the main grievances against "patriarchy" is that it objectifies women, yet now we find that after the rise of feminism, prostitution (with another name) is glorified under the guise of being freedom and liberation. So a woman selling herself to fulfill the desires of men is not objectification of herself, but a woman covering herself from men to avoid enticing their desires, is somehow blameworthy and objectification. The reality is simply that feminism promotes objectification of the woman, so long as she's gaining some type of "benefit" from it. Under this ideology, a woman is so cheap that she can be bought, enjoyed, and then discarded as trash, and somehow, they deem this as empowerment and importance for women, simply because she chose this. The outcome is that she has now degraded herself to a mere commodity of enjoyment that can be bought and sold for pleasure, as if she were some item of food, and men have gained an advantage over her in the sense that they have the ability to enjoy her and get what they naturally desire, with no burden of any legal or moral responsibilities towards her or even any consequences. It has only increased convenience for men, as they are able to fulfill themselves without liability, while the woman is further devalued, burdened, and increasingly objectified.

The real liberation lies in the ability to deflect every type of lust driven look and thought from oneself. In Islam, a woman is only enjoyed in that way by one man — her husband, and in return he is obligated to provide for her fully, protect her, treat her kindly and fairly, and she inherits from him, among other rights. Under the protection of Islam, Muslim women, who truly follow Islamic laws regarding how they carry and conduct themselves, are not physically objectified nor are they viewed as something that can easily be attained and discarded. When a man (her husband) is permitted to enjoy her, he does so while being burdened with responsibilities regarding her that have consequences if not fulfilled, both in this life and after death. Islam values, honors, and protects women, all while maintaining her in an environment and lifestyle suited to her physical and emotional needs. If she truly follows Islam and lives by it in every aspect of her life, she will be fulfilled, empowered, and happy in every sense with her place in life and society.

We don't need Feminism or "Women's Emancipation/Liberation", we need Islam. It is Allah who created both men and women and He is most knowing of what rights both deserve and the places they belong in society, as well as of what burdens they are best suited to bear. If women are oppressed, it isn't the "patriarchy" or whatever that's to blame — its the deviance from the Fitrah and from the implementation of Islam, in both our societies and personal lives.
Some have argued that feminism is not about labeling covered women oppressed/objectified, but rather exists to give women the choice to cover or uncover. As a Muslim, we cannot support or even have any smidge of sympathy to an ideology that wants to give people the choice on whether or not they want to obey Allah or disobey him. Islam is a total way of life, and it rules by force, because The One who set the laws and prohibitions knows what’s best for people, and if He forbid something, it’s due to the fact that it’s harmful and evil. So it doesn’t matter if they want to say “we support your right to cover or uncover”. WE do not support the right of anyone to disobey Allāh by uncovering! Tell that to a feminist and just see what she labels you and how much she supports your choice after that. It’s an ideology that calls for Fahshaa and Fisq, a Muslim could never support it.

Let alone for us to say “Islam actually calls for Feminism” La Hawla Wa La Quwwata Illa Billah. Islam doesn’t call for anything like it, and anyone who believes so either doesn’t know what Islam is or they don’t know Feminism. Islam calls for complete and total submission to the will of The Creator and implementation of His laws over the entire Earth. They say “Islam calls for equal rights for men and women and so does Feminism”. What Islam do you follow if you believe men and women have equal rights and opportunities?? The rights of the man and the woman are justly allotted by Allāh, but they most certainly are not equal. A woman doesn’t even have the right to leave her home or get married without permission from her male guardian, and Alhamdulillah this is justice.

Men and women are on an equal status before Allāh when it comes to deeds and being rewarded for them, but men have been explicitly stated to have a status over women in controlling their worldly and religious affairs (to an extent). Allāh has given women all the rights that they need, and their rights are different from the rights of men, so to say that Islam calls to give both equal rights is far fetched and an exaggeration.

Don't fool yourself by trying to fit every new liberal agenda that arises in with Islam and claiming that Islam calls for them. Islam isn't something you have to try and keep relevant with the times by relating it to every new fad movement and trend, especially not the most vile and immoral movements as such.

One could go on and on pointing out literally every aspect of Feminism and how it contradicts Islam and harms women, and maybe we will someday, but for now this is enough.

Living in the West, most will not realize how indoctrinated they’ve become with these liberal ideologies, due to constant exposure to them in educational institutions and mass media campaigns that push the agenda forward 24/7, even subconsciously, we’re constantly being brainwashed. It’s only when you learn Islam properly and immerse yourself into it that you come to realize the reality of Feminism and what path it’s slowly leading society down.
Worship Allāh as if You Can See Him in This Life, and He Will Reward You With Gazing Towards His Face in the Hereafter

لِّلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ وَزِيَادَةٌ ۖ

"For those who do good there is the best, and something more..." [Surat Yunus: 26]

Ibn Rajab رحمه الله says: "It is reported in Sahih Muslim from the Prophet ﷺ that the meaning of "more" in this verse is to gaze upon the countenance of Allāh in paradise. This rank is a reward for the people of Ihsān. The reasoning behind this reward is that Ihsān is the believer's worship of his Lord in this life, as if He is present. He fears Him as if he sees Him with his heart, and looks towards Him while in the state of worship. Thus, in the Hereafter, his reward is to gaze at the Face of Allāh (with his eyes)."

📝 Advice from Shaykh Ahmad Jibril (حفظه الله)

For those who aspire to be ‘Students of Knowledge’

“You should concentrate on memorizing the Koran as soon as possible, that’s the first pre-student of knowledge basics. If you see the bio of most ulama it was the first thing they started with and they were at a very young age.

I really can’t see someone as a student of ilm if he has not memorized the Koran, today the standards are so low people are referred to as ulama and don’t have Koran in their hearts. As your doing that or after you finish memorizing, learn Araby.

The USA and west in general doesn’t really have capable duaat able to carry on the legacy of spreading the haqq with full knowledge. That’s very unfortunate. Some have excelled in one area but then slack in most other areas.

There may be some, but I haven’t met brothers at a level to have foundational knowledge absorbed in the right fashion, to build on that and ascend and excel in ilm.”

A beautiful and eloquent letter written in 2004, that couldn't be more applicable today, by Al-Shaykh Al-Imam Ahmad Musa Jibrīl (حفظه الله)

A MUST Read. May Allah preserve our beloved Shaykh.

"IF THEY DIDN'T KILL HIM, HE WOULD HAVE DIED"

It is the sunnah of Allah (عز وجل) that those He honored with carrying His message to humanity were and will be the most tested. They are the ones who flee the most from being suspicious, from indulging in doubtful matters, and prevent making accusations. However, since time immemorial they are the ones most accused and suspected.

Allah (عز وجل) says:

أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوا أَن يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ

Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allah knows all that before putting them to test). [al-Ankabut 29:2-3]

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

The most tested are the messengers of Allah and those who follow them, one is tested according to his belief, if his belief is found to be firm he is tested more.

There are many verses in the Qur'an that stress examples of how the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and his companions were tested by virtue of carrying Allah's message to all. As a result, when one places upon the self the duty of dawah, one must bear its cost or fail the test - as most do.

For example, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was accused of being a man of fitnah who divided families by separating sons from their fathers and wives from their husbands. He was accused of being one who performs black magic, of being a mentally ill person, a liar and a man who is after wealth and prestige. Likewise, his wife was also accused of committing adultery (Allah forbid).

At one time, as the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was praying, a group from the disbelieving Quraysh placed a bloody uterus of a camel on his back. Similarly, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), who is considered the best man to walk the face of earth, and the best man after the messengers, Abu Bakr, became wanted fugitives with a 200 camel bounty reward for them (equivalent to millions of dollars today). Their shelter was a mere cave!!

If the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was accused of these evils and tested with such severe trials, then one must prepare oneself for no one is better than him (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

Importantly, one must observe that the Quraysh neither accused the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) of attempting to spread Islam, nor did they accuse him of trying to bring justice or even give the weak their rights. Instead, they accused him of actions by which they believed people would deem atrocious and evil.

Even though the accusations against him were the very same actions he preached against, they continued to harass him with character assassinations as soon as they became aware that people began following his message and were becoming Muslims.

Those who made these accusations toward him are the true enemies of Allah (عز و جل), and they still exist today.

Trials and Victories

Indeed a true da'ee must pay a hefty cost for spreading the message of Islam.

One day a woman was walking towards the outskirts of Makkah. She had become fed up with the crisis happening in Makkah after the proclamation of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) that Islam should be the belief of all the inhabitants of Makkah. She believed all the accusations made by the Quraysh against the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and decided to leave Makkah.

As she was walking, a man saw her walking and began to walk with her. He asked her where she was going and her reasons for leaving Makkah. She said, "It is because of that man Muhammad. He divides families, exploits the weak and has caused evil in Makkah."
Forwarded from Project Guiding Light
The man continued to walk with her. He told her about Islam, and questioned her belief in the false gods of the Quraysh. Nearing the end of the conversation, the woman asked the man what his name was. He responded but she could not hear his name clearly. She asked him again. He replied, "Muhammad." At that point, he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) became the reason the woman began to walk back to Makkah to live the life of Islam as a Muslim.

As we can see, no matter what the blamers do, the bringers of Allah's glad tidings will be victorious. The reward in the life after has no limit from the all-generous Allah (عز و جل).

Even in this life, they are also rewarded. Reflect upon the history of all famous reputable scholars of the past and present, whose names we echo daily such as the four Imams, those before them and those after them like Imam Bukhari and Ibn Taymiyyah. They were all tortured, imprisoned and accused with falsity. Allah (عز وجل) made out of them legends whose names will be heard and supplicated for until the Day of Judgment because they endured their trials with patience and steadfastness to the truth.

Allah (عز وجل) says:

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُوا ۖوَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ

And We made from among them leaders, giving guidance under Our Command, when they were patient and used to believe with certainty in Our Ayat (proofs). [as-Sajdah 32:24]

On the contrary, there will be those who may be perceived as leaders and legends of their times while the enemies of Allah advertise for them. Those are the ones who may appear loyal to the Muslims but are in fact, disloyal to Allah (عز و جل). They are the ones who "go with the flow", the ones who betray the Muslims, and bend and twist the teachings of Islam to suit their needs.

They live their lives this way, but when they are buried their names will beat them to their grave. If and when their names are mentioned after their death, they will be tainted with derogatory comments or curses of the Muslims. This is what Allah (عز وجل) has decreed for them.

A True Example

A true example of those imams who lived a life of struggle and was killed in his prime was a man named Sulayman, son of Abdallah, son of Muhammad, son of Abdul-Wahhab. He was the grandson of the reviver of Islam, Imam Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhab (رحمه الله).

Imam Sulayman is most famous for his book Tayseer al-Azeez al-Hameed. This scholarly work was an elucidation and commentary of a book written by his grandfather called Kitab at-Tawheed (The Book of Tawheed). The original book by his grandfather and Imam Sulayman's commentary are both widespread, translated and taught to students of knowledge all around the Muslim world today.

Imam Sulayman was born in 1200 A.H - 1785 C.E. in a town called Dir'iyyah in the Arabian Peninsula. This was a town known at that time for knowledge and a place of residence of the people of exemplary Islamic knowledge. Imam Sulayman became an exceptional student of knowledge memorizing the Qur'an, mastering the knowledge of inheritance, the knowledge of hadith (memorizing it, studying the science of authenticity), Fiqh and Usool. He also went on to be the best calligrapher of his time.

He once was quoted as saying,

I know the men who are narrators of hadith in the chains of hadith more than I know my tribes' names.

In addition to his Tayseer al-Azeez al-Hameed, he wrote several other books. One was a three-volume book on fiqh, a booklet on Juma'ah fiqh, and another called 'The Proof on Denouncing the Polytheists'.

He was known for being very firm in ordaining the good and forbidding the evil, and known for his protective jealousy over Islamic jurisprudence when they were being belittled or disregarded.

In 1233 A.H. - 1818 C.E. a leader from Egypt called Ibrahim Basha invaded Dir'iyyah in response to a request by the British.
Forwarded from Project Guiding Light
Ibrahim Basha was the son of the famous leader of Egypt named, Muhammad Ali Basha, who along with his son were both British agents, The request came about because the people of Dir'iyyah who were labeled as 'Wahhabi's' united with the people of Kawasim in what is today (Ras al-Khiamah) - United Arab Emirates. The British had received word that the people of Dir'iyyah and Kawasim were going to attack a British ship passing through on its way to India.

After several attacks upon Dir'iyyah, the people had no choice but to choose between surrendering to Ibrahim Basha or to die. They chose to surrender. Out of fear later on, people became informants for Ibrahim Basha against those who were perceived as a threat to his rule.

Among those who were depicted as a danger was Imam Sulayman.

Ibrahim Basha apprehended Imam Sulayman, and ordered others to play musical instruments in order to agitate the Imam. Ibrahim Basha knew Imam Sulayman strongly believed in the prohibition of music.

Because physical and mental torture did not work, Ibrahim Basha ordered Imam Sulayman to be crucified in the town's graveyard. He also ordered that they continue to shoot at him until his flesh was shredded.

Imam Sulayman remained patient and steadfast to the truth. Though his life span was less than 33 years old, his scholarly works are being read, studied and implemented by millions of Muslims today. Tayseer al-Azeez al-Hameed has become a source in the knowledge of Tawheed for most of the Islamic World.

His father (Abdullah) was alive at the time this took place. Ibrahim Basha summoned Abdullah and boasted to him how he had killed his son. Abdullah replied by saying,

If you didn't kill him he would have died.

Ibrahim Basha was taken aback at the patience, unwavering dedication, and determination of Abdullah, Imam Sulayman's father. May Allah have mercy on Imam Sulayman, his father, and grandfather, and unite us with them in the peak of heaven. Ameen!

It is indeed ironic that at times we see those who do not believe in the Hereafter hold more heroic stands to what they believed in to the point where it became part of them like their flesh and blood, while those who claim for themselves a garden of heaven bigger than the sky and the earth cower and tremble away.

One must have resolve to what one believes in even if the pain and suffering reach their peak. One must have commitment to his belief even if those around him depart and abandon him. This is how one succeeds in the test, a similar test that Allah (عز وجل) sent upon His messengers.

O Allah, verily we seek your help, we believe in You, we put our trust in You and we praise You and we are not ungrateful to You. O Allah, You alone we worship and to You we pray and prostrate, for your sake we strive. We hope for your mercy and fear your punishment, for your punishment will certainly reach the disbelievers. O Allah, punish the infidels of the People of the Book who are preventing others from following your way. Ameen!
