If we pretend the stock dip that randomly happens is actually from any boycott then you work with little gain and all the effort and attention put into it. Its not even an argument of it being one part in a greater protest because something like a boycott requires total political attention to even do locally. Screaming into a pillow is more therapeutic, healthier and gets you better outcomes. People are too desperate to want to feel like they have an impact on the world to care about if the performance they are doing is even the one they should be doing or if its doing anything at all.

I'm boycotting McDonald's like 90% of the time because the only thing I ever get is a milkshake but the ice machine is always broken anyway.

I have an autistic food thing about McDonald's hot mustard, and years ago, sometimes weekly, when the app would let me have a free 'any size' fry with a one dollar purchase I'd go to every McDonald's I could and get as many hot mustards as possible for one dollar. At one point my order was:

One dollar cheeseburger, extra pickles and onions

Free medium fry

Four hot mustards, because at the time they were free for asking

And I'd make that on each one of my friend's phones then wait at the carryout spot. At one point I got 36 hot mustards and nine burger/fry meals in one day in one road trip with two friends.

Can't do that now. Can't even pay employees to get me a large unopened box of the condiment. It's all tracked as an item people have to pay individually for.
