Murphy:

"President Aoun told us in our first meeting this morning that he expects a government to be formed by the end of the week, and we understand that all parties will need to make some concessions to achieve this."

Murphy:

- The import of Iranian oil makes Lebanon vulnerable to sanctions and Iranian tankers are an opportunity for Iran to show off. This is a not a long-term solution.

- I don’t think there are now any imminent sanctions on Lebanese officials.

Murphy:

- Hezbullah is interested in keeping the country in crisis, but our interest is the health and stability of Lebanon in the long run.

- The Lebanese will be among the beneficiaries of the nuclear deal with Iran.

💬 Senator Murphy: We have to devise some ways to help increase the wages of the Lebanese army. It is unacceptable that this army receives less than the wages of average Hezbullah members.

At the current exchange rates, the minimum Hezbullah salary is 550-600 USD, while the minimum Lebanese Army salary is 50-60 USD.
