As of today, several fuel importing companies are getting paid in fresh USD, the first sign of the full lifting of fuel subsidies in Lebanon.

Several gas stations in Tripoli, Northern Lebanon started to sell diesel exclusively in fresh USD.

Buying unsubsidized diesel in USD is cheaper than buying it at the black market rate, but nonetheless too expensive for the majority of Lebanese.

Dollarizing the purchase of fuel without clarity on the exchange rate is worrying. The black market dollar is controlled by a small group, and if their interests converge with the fuel distributors, they can raise the exchange rate at each distribution to increase profits.

A protest was organized in front of the justice palace in Zahle in support of the Lebanese Force party official who hoarded millions of liters of subsidized fuel

Ibrahim Sakr, who is still in hiding, was publicly given support by his family & the Lebanese Forces party officials.

Now: A joint press conference for the Ministers of Social Affairs and Economy and the Head of the Central Inspection:

- Al-Moshrafieh: The financial aid card is paid in fresh USD or its equivalent in Lebanese pounds in the parallel market.

- Al-Moshrfieh: The financial card is not an election card, and there will be no discretion.

- The deadline for submitting applications for the card is from September 15 to October 15.

Economy Minister Raoul Nehme launching the ration card: The solution is to form a new government, and we have hoped it was the one to launch this program.

Nehme: We want to support families who really need support, and we will give $25 per person. The maximum per family is $126.

Nehme: The head of the family (e.g. Father) is the one who fills out the form and fills information on all family members.

The application is submitted either via the Internet, through ministry centers or through NGOs.
