Several gas stations in Tripoli, Northern Lebanon started to sell diesel exclusively in fresh USD.

Buying unsubsidized diesel in USD is cheaper than buying it at the black market rate, but nonetheless too expensive for the majority of Lebanese.

Dollarizing the purchase of fuel without clarity on the exchange rate is worrying. The black market dollar is controlled by a small group, and if their interests converge with the fuel distributors, they can raise the exchange rate at each distribution to increase profits.

A protest was organized in front of the justice palace in Zahle in support of the Lebanese Force party official who hoarded millions of liters of subsidized fuel

Now: A joint press conference for the Ministers of Social Affairs and Economy and the Head of the Central Inspection:

- Al-Moshrafieh: The financial aid card is paid in fresh USD or its equivalent in Lebanese pounds in the parallel market.

- Al-Moshrfieh: The financial card is not an election card, and there will be no discretion.

- The deadline for submitting applications for the card is from September 15 to October 15.

Economy Minister Raoul Nehme launching the ration card: The solution is to form a new government, and we have hoped it was the one to launch this program.

Nehme: We want to support families who really need support, and we will give $25 per person. The maximum per family is $126.

Nehme: The head of the family (e.g. Father) is the one who fills out the form and fills information on all family members.

The application is submitted either via the Internet, through ministry centers or through NGOs.

Nehme: We will inform the head of the family when/if his request is approved via SMS. We will conduct home visits to verify some information.

Note: I doubt home visits will happen. It was Nehme, no other, who said they don't have enough inspectors to monitor some shops.

Nehme: Every step we take is in cooperation with the World Bank and under the supervision of the Central Inspection, because we want to prove to citizens that we are working for them and not launching the financial aid card on the basis that it is an electoral card.

Nehme: Our goal is to exclude the affluent (rich people, or those doing well). We will request information, including identity numbers, passports and bank accounts, if any, and we will verify all the information.

Shuaib Hospital, in the south, announced its closure to all patients, including those in the dialysis department, due to the failure to provide it with the fuel oil needed to operate the electric generators.

The hospital administration:

🇮🇱 In the past few weeks, several high profile hacks have been announced against Israeli institutions, where hackers demanded ransom.

One of the institutions, Bar Ilan University, refused to pay which drove the hackers to release as a warning hundreds of documents and email data.

Another incident involved a hacker called Sangkancil who has claimed to have stolen the personal information of 7 million Israelis.

He stole the data from the CITY4U website, which is used by local authorities to process payments such as property taxes, fines and utility bills.
