🛑-- Breaking: Energy Minister announces no commercial gas discovery found in Lebanon’s first-ever offshore exploration in Block 4, off the coast of Beirut, according to preliminary results.

He says that the info gathered from the well will be useful for further exploration. Another well is supposed to be drilled in December in southern Block 9.

As has been clarified in the comments: The companies (Total, ENI, Novatek) found some gas while drilling in Block 4 but nothing large enough to suggest commercial viability.

A final report will be out in about 2-2.5 months. Based on that we’ll know if they want to drill another well. (The contract with the Lebanese state only necessitates that they still one well in each of Block 4 and 9, but they can do another if they want)
