Russian post on Golan Heights (Red Hills–Tuloul Al-Hamar)

⋯ Israeli President Herzog stormed and desecrated the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, and lit the first candle on Hanukkah.

The site, also named the Tomb of the Patriarchs, was built in many stages, under Herod (enclosure over the cave with thick walls), the Byzantines (roof, basilica), the Arabs (reconstruction of the roof, “castle”, northeastern entrance), the Crusaders (new gabled roof, clerestory windows, vaulting), the Ayyubids (minarets, minbar), the Mamluks (Al-Jawali Mosque, additional entrances, cenotaphs for Joseph, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, Leah, Abraham and Sarah), and the Ottomans (sumptuous restoration).

On 8 June 1967, as related in his autobiography, IDF Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren captured the mosque, shooting on the doors with a Uzi submachine gun, and pulled the doors down with chains attached to his Jeep. The main stairway was also destroyed. Under the 1996 Wye River Accords, the waqf (Islamic trust) should control 81% of the mosque, but in fact has 35%, primarily after the gardens are subtracted.

According to a statement by the Dentist Association of Hezbullah,

• The results of the Kataeb Party candidate were embarrassing for the party, not figuring even in the top ten.

• What was issued by Mr. Sami Gemayel [that armed militants trashed the process] is slander.
