Reports: News of armed clashes on the Lebanese-Syrian border between the Syrian security forces and Lebanese smugglers, where the Syrian authorities were able to thwart the smuggling of a captagon shipment. Several were arrested.

The toll of the occupation in 2021:

⋯ On 23-12-2021, Lebanon helped to thwart the smuggling of more than one million Captagon pills in Dubai port, coming from Beirut port inside a refrigerator containing boxes of real and plastic lemons stuffed with Captagon pills.

The Lebanese customs opened an investigation to find out that the seized shipment left about a month ago Beirut for Egypt, where it stayed for 15 days before sailing to the port of Dubai.

The customs arrested the Lebanese freight contractor, Wael Mosbah Obeid, born in 1990 from Denniyeh.

⋯ The customs stated that they were clearing the transactions of a second shipment of lemons still in Beirut port to be exported to Kuwait, in addition to another shipment still at sea where the judiciary issued a decision to return it to Beirut port.

After examining the shipment, it was found that it contained 9 million Captagon pills hidden in the same way. It was also found that the two seized shipments in Dubai and Beirut ports were shipped for the benefit of two companies based in Tripoli, Lebanon.

“The attempts to isolate Hezbullah have not stopped, and the last was on 17 ⁠October 2019, in order to weaken us and remove the Christian cover to Hezbullah. When they failed, they put us under sanctions because we refused to stop the understanding. Attempts of isolation are still ongoing, and the Shiite unity is very important to face them and we should keep it, but it is not enough, because we are losing everything else including the state, to keep the unity.”

⋯ Gebran Bassil: “We stood by Mar Mikhael, but where is the translation of this understanding? In democratic agreement, in state building?”

“I tell Sayyed Hassan [Nasrallah], who has a special place in my heart and mind, that we need to develop the understanding further, and we have tried many times to do so. (...) Our goal is state building, theirs is resistance and defense, and we said we can have both, if the resistance stays under and with the state. We can't lose the state and keep the resistance, but we can win both. Lebanon cannot afford to be stateless.”

“And we are put in situations we can't explain, only for one person: [Nabih] Berri. It is not okay for us to be put always between 2 choices, state or strife, stability or rooting out corruption. We made an understanding with Hezbullah, not with Amal. When we see them getting into our relationship and understanding, it is our right to start doubting that the understanding should stay as it is. We ask for a new and a better understanding that could help us and them.”
